The South African Brandy Foundation was established in 1984 and our members account for more than 98% of the country's brandy production industry - representing the primary producer, co-operative, distiller and marketer.

The South African Brandy Foundation at all times aims to act in the best interest of its members, both in South Africa and abroad, by:

  • Facilitating the long term growth of brandy through promoting South African brandy as a grape spirit of the highest quality.
  • Promoting the brandy related interests of Foundation members.
  • Promoting the integrity of South African brandy, if necessary through legal action.
  • Informing its members of legislative or other regulatory measures that affect the South African brandy industry and taking action to promote, support or oppose these accordingly.
  • Informing its members of legislative or other regulatory measures that affect the sale of South African brandy in international markets and taking action to promote, support or oppose these accordingly.
  • Through collaboration between its members, ensuring world class standards in all aspects of the brandy industry value chain.
  • Preserving the historical heritage of the South African brandy industry.

HIGHLIGHTS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS INCLUDE:

  • The publication of various titles and TV broadcasts on brandy;
  • The amendment of legislation to allow individual producers to distill their own brandy on the estate;
  • The successes of our brandies in International Wine and Brandy Competitors.
  • Hosting the inaugural GoodLife Fine Brandy Festival in 2008 and continuing the success in 2009.
  • The coffee table book, Fire Water: South African Brandy, produced in association with Quivertree Publication was judged the Best Book in the World at the Gourmand Awards held in France in the in the Wine and Spirits category.

The South African Brandy Foundation is also a member of "Proudly South African", a reflection of the importance and relevance of South African brandy for our nation.
